RSVP SEASON HAS STARTED
Here's how to navigate it the Hush way

Events season can be a lot. There’s planning the outfit, the gift, the getting there (and sometimes the staying there). And often, once the celebration is over, you’re left with a fancy dress you likely won’t wear until at least next year, if ever again. That’s sad for the dress, and also for my lack of wardrobe space. So, I’ve decided this year I’m changing my approach to dressing up a little bit. I want to wear something that makes me feel chic and put-together, but also laid-back enough that I’ll actually wear it again after the big day. Enter, the occasion co-ord.
Like a dress, it’s a head-to-toe look that makes an impact. Unlike a dress, it’s something you can style up or down, wear together, wear separately and keep in your rotation long after the event. I’ve got a couple of things in the diary already this year – the polo and a wedding back in South Africa – and I can’t wait to wear this bright red set, aka our Kinsey shirt and Carys trousers. The shapes are inspired by the pyjama dressing trend, and so is that gorgeous piping, but the fabric is a luxurious twill that has a real drapey weight to it. It makes it move beautifully when you’re walking – or dancing of course. We’re going to a party after all. I also love that these trousers have a stretch waist (and I will be even happier about that when I’m on my third course of the wedding meal).
I’ve done a couple of things to dress it up that I think are quite important. The first is adding a pair of unapologetically big, shiny earrings. They give the outfit that polished, dressy vibe but in a way that doesn’t feel over the top. I just love them! (And so does everyone in the office). The second is opting for a shoe that looks delicate, to balance the bold fabric choice. Our snake print leather sandals are perfect for this: strappy, with a comfortable low heel. I’m also going for a bag that feels fresh and new: mesh accessories look cool with most things.
And when I’m done with my RSVPs, this co-ord will still get lots of airtime. The shirt looks great with a pair of jeans when I’m meeting friends after work. And these trousers are so much more versatile than you might think. I just throw on a plain white tee and some trainers on the weekend – I’d wear them for brunch or whatever I’m getting up to.
