THE SPORTY-CHIC SKIRT
Why it's perfect for my February mindset

I call this time of year seasonal limbo. As a person interested in style and trends, I’m mentally ready to move ahead, however this weather won’t always let me. Hence the limbo. So, it’s at this time of year that I appreciate a few new perk-me-up things that fall smack in the middle of the venn diagram of practicality and style excitement. Something that feels new and interesting, but that is instantly wearable (i.e. warm) and easily pares back with my winter wardrobe. Lately, I’ve found myself reaching for our rich navy Harrison skirt, a sporty midi skirt inspired by our bestselling joggers. The straight midi shape feels like something fresh I haven’t worn in a while, and any whiff of formality ordinarily associated with this kind of piece is contradicted by the comfortable stretch sports fabric, elasticated waist and athleisure drawstring. I love the sporty-chic duality, and importantly, that I can layer it up with knitwear and knee boots.
Speaking of boots, I’ve been enjoying adding some fun to this look with our white leather low heeled knee-highs, which I can only describe as insanely comfortable – and I say that as someone who commutes from East to West London every day. But the skirt looks just as good with a heavy lug-soled pair and tights, or even suede mules and thick socks on the weekend. And because I’m a long-time advocate of tonal dressing (it's an easy way to look put-together) I love wearing it with our Cora chunky cashmere jumper, also in navy. Together, they feel like a cosy dream.
As for the final touches, another piece bringing a little newness-you-can-wear-now is our olive green leather jacket. It makes the Harrison skirt, or joggers, look extra pulled together. (I’m also wearing it with our new barrel-leg Cordi trousers to run around at the weekend, btw). And this woven satin tote bag, which is big enough to carry my laptop but feels anything but corporate. Both pieces dress up the sporty attitude of the skirt – finding the up/down tension in an outfit that reflects the contradictions in my life, and my personality, is one of the things I love most about playing around with clothes.
